Vine & Branches Presents
A Debut Author’s Journey: From Concept to Cover
Rockville Centre resident Maureen Reid will discuss the road she traveled in publishing her first novel, Becoming Herself. Combining humor with thoughtful introspection, she will share her story, turning into a debut author after enjoying a successful career managing colleges, corporations and international law firms. Maureen will share a synopsis of her novel and her experiences in navigating this new world of publishing.
Maureen has no formal background in writing— she just sat down and started to tell a story. Her undergraduate degree is in Political Science from Niagara University and she holds an M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Connecticut.
Maureen believes that women can do anything they want, once they put their minds to it. That is the message that resonates in her writing.
Set in upstate New York in the first half of the 20th century, Becoming Herself is the story of Margaret, an Irish immigrant who faces prejudices, fights for the right to have her voice heard and travels the road to self-discovery.
The Clarion Review called it, “An inspiring historical novel about the internal struggles involved in forging one’s identity despite opposition.”
